Virginia coach Tony Bennett says that Darion Atkins has a doctor's appointment today and that he should know more about the extent of the forward's right shin injury later today or tomorrow.
Bennett said he wasn't sure if an X-ray or an MRI was being taken.
I asked Bennett how Atkins' injury has affected Virginia's defense in the last two games and this is what he said:
“When you watch on tape, he’s certainly favoring the leg and he’s not the same as he was earlier. Sometimes you can play if you’re not quite 100 percent, but you’ve got to be close, especially with the way Darion plays and has been effective for us.
“It’s been unfortunate for him, but hopefully whether it’s the time [off] this week to rest or whatever the course of treatment is, we can get it so that he can go and play all out and fly around because that’s kind of his mentality with his versatility and activity on defense.
“And when he’s not able to get out on screens and show as much or just be as active, it does affect him and probably does affect our defense when he’s on the floor more than most guys probably.”
