Doesn't it seem like a whole another season ago that Taylor Barnette was Virginia's starting point guard?
Barnette, the freshman from Lexington, Ky., started the first two games of the season while Jontel Evans and Teven Jones were out of the lineup.
Barnette had a combined five points, no assists and one rebound in 45 minutes.
When Evans and Jones returned, Barnette was pretty much relegated to the bench. The 6-foot-3 lefty, who is really more of a combo guard than a true point, has been a DNP in the last three games.
But with Evans having aggravated his surgically repaired right foot and out for tomorrow's game against Mississippi Valley State, I would expect Barnette to see some playing time behind Jones.
Winless Mississippi Valley State has lost four games by an average of 29 points, so I think this could be a good opportunity for Barnette to get his feet wet again.
I also think this just has to be the game where junior walk-on Thomas Rogers scores his first career points! Roanoke Times sportswriter Doug Doughty and I have been trying to predict when Rogers will crack the scoresheet. My money's on tomorrow.
