The Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra will present “Odds and Ends: 300 Years of String Music,’’ its spring concert, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s Memorial Church.
Richard Baritaud will direct the performers in “Suite No. 2’’ from Henry Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen,’’ a 1692 work, as well as Tchaikovsky’s “Andante Cantabile,’’ Dvorak’s “Notturno in B’’ and Puccini’s “Crisantemi.’’ There also will be two 20th-century piano preludes by Shostakovich arranged for string orchestra.
Audiences will get the chance to hear a piece that is rarely played — “Sinfonia in F’’ by Wilhelm Friedman Bach, the oldest of J.S. Bach’s sons.
Baritaud, director of the strings program at Henley Middle School, served as principal violist of the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra for many years.
The Blue Ridge Chamber Orchestra has been Charlottesville’s community string orchestra for two decades.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Visit avenue. org/brco or call 295-1617.
