The Metropolitan Opera now in HD

Fans of the Metropolitan Opera can head to the Paramount Theater this season to see 11 high-definition transmissions of the Met’s live opera broadcasts.

Series tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday to Met members.

The Paramount’s Star Circle members can buy tickets starting 10 a.m. Monday, and all Paramount member smay purchase them starting 10 a.m. Aug. 15.

Sales open to the general public at 10 a.m. Aug. 22.

The schedule opens 6 p.m. Sept. 22 with the opening night gala starring Renee Fleming.

All other performances will begin in the afternoon.

Coming up in the series will be performances of Richard Strauss’ “Salome’’ on Oct. 11, the Met premiere of John Adams’ “Doctor Atomic’’ on Nov. 8, a rebroadcast of the Nov. 22 peformance of a new production of Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust’’ on Nov. 23, Massenet’s “Thais’’ on Dec. 28, a new production of Puccini’s “La Rondine” on Jan. 10, Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Eurydice’’ on Jan. 24, Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor’’ on Feb. 7, Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly’’ on March 7, a new production of Bellini’s “La Somnambula’’ on March 21 and Rossini’s “La Cenerentola’’ on May 9.

Opera fans will be able to see the opera broadcasts on the large screen with digital sound.

Tickets will be $23, $21 for seniors and $17 for students. Discounts will be available for series subscriptions.
