Heritage Repertory Theatre is raising the curtain on a new name.
Heritage has changed its name to Heritage Theatre Festival.
The new name reflects the fact that Heritage repertory company but is no longer presenting its shows in the “rotating repertory’’ format. Instead, there’s more of a festival of plays and musical productions that have complete runs and then are succeeded by other shows.
The new season, which brings Heritage back after a year away, opens June 19 with “City of Angels,’’ directed by producing artistic director Robert Chapel in Culbreth Theatre.
Coming up in the season will be “I Am My Own Wife’’ by Doug Wright, opening June 17 in Helms Theatre; Terrence McNally’s “Master Class,’’ opening July 7 in the Culbreth; “Forever Plaid,’’ starting July 16 in the Helms; and “The Light in the Piazza,’’ opening July 23 in the Culbreth.
Season subscriptions and tickets will go on sale June 2. The new Culbreth Road Parking Garage will be available next to the Drama Building, offering free parking for Heritage patrons. For details, call 924-3376.
