Peter Bergen gives Miller Center forum
Peter Bergen is this week’s lecturer at the Miller Center.
Bergen will discuss “Face to Face with Osama bin Laden” at 11 a.m. Friday.
A print and television journalist, he produced the first television interview with Osama bin Laden for CNN, where he has been a terrorism and national security analyst.
A book signing will follow his free talk.

Williams and Spaar visit New Dominion
New Dominion Bookshop will host a reading and book signing by Tony Williams at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The Williamsburg author will present selections from his new history, “Hurricane of Independence: The Untold Story of the Deadly Storm at the Deciding Moment of the American Revolution.”
Williams has taught history and literature for more than 10 years.
The University of Virginia’s Lisa Russ Spaar will be at New Dominion Bookshop at 11 a.m. Saturday to read from and sign copies of her new collection of poems, “Satin Cash: Poems.”
Spaar directs the Area Program in Poetry Writing at the University of Virginia. She also has been an instructor for the University’s Culture of London Summer Program at Regents College. She recently edited the anthology, “All That Mighty Heart: London Poems.”

Britton will kick off Michie Tavern series
Local historian and award-winning author Rick Britton will speak at Michie Tavern at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Britton will discuss “Milton on the Rivanna.” Following his talk, Britton will sign copies of his latest book, “Jefferson: A Monticello Sampler.”
Britton talk is the first of Michie Tavern’s Wednesday Fireside Lecture Series, which will be held on Wednesdays in November, January and February.

Madison museum has book sale today
The James Madison Museum’s annual book sale will run from noon to 5 p.m. today on the lower level of the museum.

Two book groups meet at the library
The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library will host two events this week.
The Monday Evening Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Crozet Library to discuss “Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community And War” by Nathaniel Philbrick. Another book group will meet 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gordon Avenue to discuss “Art of Mending” by Elizabeth Berg. Call 979-7151.
MFA students read at the Twisted Tea
The University of Virginia’s MFA reading series will continue with week. Paul Legault and Lee Johnson will read from their work at 8 p.m. Monday at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar.

The Department of Middle Asian and South Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Virginia is sponsoring an Urdu Poetry Festival next weekend.
September 12 and 13.
Most of the panel discussions and reading will take place in the Harrison Institute Special Collections Library’s auditorium on Friday and Saturday.
