AUTO DECALS: Fees are $25 per motor vehicle, $10 per motorcycles and $7.50 per trailer. Decals must be displayed by April 1 and may be purchased at the treasurer’s office in the county administration building in Madison, (540) 948-4409. Madison town residents must purchase decals from town offices at 23 Washington Circle. (540) 948-3202.

DOG TAGS: Fee is $4 per dog; available at the treasurer’s office. (540) 948- 4409.

EMERGENCY: Dial 9-1-1.

LANDFILL: The waste transfer station and recycling center in Madison County is on Route 662 near Shelby. The landfill is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The landfill is closed Wednesdays, Sundays and state holidays. Recycling is available at the landfill. (540) 948-3938.

VOTER REGISTRATION: The county registrar’s office at 302 Thrift Road is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Evelina Carpenter is the registrar of voters. (540) 948-6533.

Meetings

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS: Second Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the county administration building .

PLANNING COMMISSION: Joint meeting with the Board of Supervisors, first Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the county administration building.

SCHOOL BOARD: Second Monday at 7 p.m. in the School Board office at (540) 948-3780.

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS: Third Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the General District Courtroom in the War Memorial Building.

Town of Madison

The town has a four-member council elected at large to four-year terms. The mayor is also elected. The council meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at the town offices, 23 Washington Circle. (540) 948- 3202.
