Downtown Mall
Runs eight city blocks along Main Street in downtown Charlottesville, connected by a pedestrian mall.
Amid plenty of restaurants, has about 50 shops, including bookstores, antique stores, art galleries, toy stores and boutiques. A few examples include Caspari, Vivian's Art to Wear, Read It Again Sam and Cha Chas.

Barracks Road Shopping Center
Along Emmet Street, from just north of Barracks Road to Arlington Boulevard.
Includes about 80 stores, such as Old Navy, Barnes & Noble, Harris Teeter, Kroger, CVS, Michael's and Banana Republic.
Pantops
Runs along U.S. 250, just east of Charlottesville.
Includes Rivanna Ridge (Giant grocery store, Blockbuster and other stores), Pantops Center (Food Lion, Hallmark, Roses, Radio Shack and others) and many car dealerships.
Charlottesville Fashion Square mall
A large, indoor mall at the corner of U.S. 29 north and East Rio Road.
Anchor department stores are Sears, JC Penney and Belk, plus about 65 specialty stores, including Gap, Bath and Body Works, Ann Taylor and Victoria's Secret.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hollymead Town Center
A large-scale, mixed-use development on U.S. 29, several miles north of Charlottesville.
Includes Target, Harris Teeter, PetSmart, CVS and several small stores.
Plans tentatively include a Kohl's and movie theater, along with several more stores and significant residential development.

U.S. 29
A series of shopping centers along the U.S. 29 corridor include a variety of chain and specialty stores.
Grocery stores include Giant, Kroger, Harris Teeter and Whole Foods.
Other large chain stores include Staples, Office Max, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Circuit City and Dick's Sporting Goods.
Plow & Hearth
Located in Madison County, just south of the town of Madison on U.S. 29.
Country Store (130B Commerce Lane, Rochelle) includes gifts, gourmet foods, gardening supplies, hearth accessories and traditional toys and furniture. (540) 948-3659.

Hours for both locations are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
