A Crozet teenager convicted last month for his part in the Interstate 64 shootings has pleaded guilty to the charges a second time today after filing an appeal last week.
Brandon Dawson, 16, pleaded guilty this afternoon to five counts of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle in Albemarle Circuit Court. Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Darby Lowe said Dawson is scheduled to be sentenced July 8.
Dawson’s defense attorney, Dana Slater, confirmed last week that her client was seeking an appeal. The teenager had been sentenced May 28 to a state juvenile facility for an indeterminate amount of time to be established by the Department of Juvenile Justice. The maximum time the state could hold Dawson is until he is 21 years old.

Great. My nephew was taken away to DJJ where he was beaten every day by racist staff and starved of food for sixteen months.
I hope all you people screaming for this boy’s head are happy.
As we learned when Albermarle cops stormed the house where this guy’s partner was hiding, if you want to commit burglary and shoot innocent people, all you need to do is get a job at the police department.
I wish someone had told me this, or about jobs available at the agency which is now DJJ, when I got back from Viet Nam almost 40 years ago. It would have made adjustment a lot easier, because you become addicted to the thrill of killing, the screams of a dying person who seconds before only wanted to kill YOU. And the warmth of someone else’s fresh blood, it’s a soothing warmth that is unmatched and I will never forget it.
I was pushed into therapy and discharge instead of being steered to a new career with a badge to shoot people on the street or torturing them in a prison or jail.
