Arc of the Piedmont gives annual award

Mildred Spicer of the Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department has received the 39th Stevens-Paige Award from the Arc of the Piedmont, a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of those with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Spicer was presented the award at the Arc of the Piedmont’s annual membership meeting Aug. 14. The organization recognized Spicer for three decades of service to the area’s special-needs community, including volunteering with the Area 3 Special Olympics program and serving as program supervisor for the city’s Therapeutic Recreation Program.
The nonprofit also elected new members to its executive committee as part of the board of directors, whose terms will begin Monday. They are: Jim Masloff, president; Bob Ribando, vice president; Bruce Hunter, secretary; Tim Gillett, treasurer; and Linda Noakes as an at-large member.
Also elected as directors for the coming year were Stan Binstead, Skip Fox, Helen Holdren, Brian Kennedy, Mary Mead, Eddie Pinson, Nick Sorrentino, Herb Stewart and Karen Reifenberger.
