For the fifth year in a row, the Center for Digital Government has ranked Charlottesville one of the Top Ten Digital Cities in America.

The ranking is based on the 2008 Digital Cities Survey and examines how city governments use digital technologies to better serve their residents and streamline operations.

The survey includes an assessment of how municipalities are using emerging technologies, integrating digital methods of delivering customer service and saving resources through the use of technology.

The city recently added podcasts of its meetings to its Web site as well as real-time GPS tracking to allow customers to track their bus.

Charlottesville moved up one spot this year to fifth in its population category of 30,000 to 74,999 people, while Lynchburg ranked first.

For large cities, Aurora, Colo., took the top spot.
