Area residents can head to Albemarle County beaches for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Swimming beaches at Chris Greene, Walnut Creek and Mint Springs will be open for the three-day holiday weekend starting May 24, according to a county news release.
The beaches will then close the rest of next week and will reopen the following weekend, from May 31 to June 1. The beaches will close again during the week and then will open again on June 5, following the last day of school in Albemarle County, for the remainder of the summer.
Season passes for individuals and families are available at all three beaches and at the Parks and Recreation Office on the first floor of the County Office Building on McIntire Road.
Parks are open during daylight hours. The beaches themselves are open daily for swimming with lifeguards on duty from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In addition to swimming, the parks feature picnic shelters, hiking trails, swimming lessons and canoes for rent at Chris Greene and Walnut Creek.
