First Amendment wall earns another award

Charlottesville’s First Amendment monument garnered another prestigious architectural award last week.

The Community Chalkboard, planned and funded by the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, was honored by the Building Stone Institute for “excellence in the incorporation or use of natural stone.”

The free speech wall is made of natural cleft slate from Buckingham County. It was designed by local architects Pete O’Shea and Robert Winstead and unveiled in April 2006.
