I-64 shooting suspect faces 2 new charges

Authorities have filed two more felony charges against Interstate 64 shooting suspect Slade Woodson.
The new charges — a second felony charge of shooting into an occupied building and a felony charge of shooting from a vehicle — follow earlier felony charges of destruction of property and firing into an occupied building.
All the charges stem from the March 27 early morning shooting incidents: firing into an occupied house on Commerce Avenue and shooting the Dupont Community Credit Union building on Lucy Lane. The new charge of shooting into an occupied building stems from an additional bullet hole located by investigators in the Commerce Avenue home, Waynesboro police Sgt. Kelly Walker said.
Woodson, 19, of Afton, requested a public defender Monday during an advisement hearing in Waynesboro General District Court.
A preliminary hearing on all the charges is scheduled for May 12.
Woodson is also facing felony indictments in Albemarle County on charges he shot five occupied cars traveling on I-64, slightly injuring two people, and an unoccupied Virginia Department of Transportation dump truck.
The shootings shut down the interstate for several hours and sparked a massive manhunt. A 16-year-old also has been charged in the case.
Police shot a man who brandished a gun during an early-morning raid in Albemarle County, where Woodson and the juvenile were apprehended.
