The Albemarle County Police Department will be honored this week for earning reaccreditation.
After a four-year process, the department originally was accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission in 2000, along with 24 other law-enforcement agencies.
To be reaccredited, the department underwent a review of 187 standards and upgraded its policies.
In awarding the reaccreditation, the standards commission commended the department’s “community-oriented policing,” according to Lee Catlin, county spokeswoman.
A ceremony marking the department’s achievement will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the County Office Building on McIntire Road.
