If politicians refuse to do anything about high gas prices, then maybe God can help.
That’s Rocky Twyman’s philosophy. The Maryland consultant who recently started the “Prayer at the Pump” movement gathered with locals today at a gas station to pray for local gas prices.
Twyman prayed at the Sam’s Club gas station on U.S. 29, thanking God for the recent decrease in prices and asking him to lower them even further.
Twyman and another local pastor then sang “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” adding a verse of “He’s got lower gas prices in His hands.”
The Seventh-day Adventist asserts that the movement is not his, but rather God’s. According to Twyman, “Pray at the Pump” is neither an organized nor a political movement. He has traveled as far as St. Louis, Mo., and Huntsville, Ala., asking those who believe in the power of prayer to join him in asking the Lord for a little bit of relief in this hard economy, he said.
And he believes God is truly listening.
“We have felt the impact of this movement all across the country,” Twyman said. “We just hope the prices keep going down.”
Twyman, however, said he does not believe that prayer without works will accomplish anything. He encourages people to carpool and plan out their everyday driving routes in a way to save as much gas as possible.
