This year’s $100,000 goal for the Santa Fund — an annual charity drive that collects donations to provide vouchers for shoes, clothing, medicine and other essentials to children in need — has been surpassed.

So far, this year’s fund has raised $106,272. In 2006 and 2007, the fund garnered $127,561 and $129,090, respectively.
Sponsored by The Daily Progress and the WINA radio station in conjunction with the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area, the Santa Fund was established in 1894 and serves children in Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson and Orange. Last year, a family with one child received a voucher for $50, while a family with three children got $100.
Santa Fund envelopes are available at most area bank branches and at the offices of The Daily Progress, located at 685 W. Rio Road in Albemarle County, and WINA, at 1140 Rose Hill Drive in Charlottesville.

Please mail all contributions to: Santa Fund, 806 E. High St., Charlottesville, VA 22902.
