A special-use permit request for a Preston Avenue live music venue has been deferred by the applicant after meeting with the city’s Planning Commission last week.

The venue at 608 Preston Ave. would serve as a temporary site pending the re-opening of the Jefferson Theater, scheduled for September 2009. The theater closed for renovations in June 2006.

Several neighbors were critical of the possible temporary venue, citing traffic and noise concerns at the commission’s meeting. Kirby Hutto of Starr Hill LLC, the project’s applicant, said it was unclear how the project would move forward.
