A Greene County man who worked while receiving Social Security disability payments will spend two years on probation.
Irven Jones, 65, was sentenced Monday in Charlottesville federal court after previously admitting he had wrongfully received more than $97,000 in disability payments. According to authorities, Jones’ wife’s salary at a nursing home in Bealeton shot up after her husband supposedly retired, but Jones continued to work and duck employees’ questions about whether he was working there. He was receiving disability payments at that time.
Jones pleaded guilty in April to theft of money or property belonging to the United States with an aggregate value in excess of $1,000. Conditions of his sentencing include six months of electronic home monitoring and $97,225.90 in restitution.
