A 20-year-old University of Virginia student was kidnapped and robbed near the intersection of Rugby Road and University Avenue late Saturday night, according to Charlottesville police.
Three men kidnapped and took the man to Crozet in Albemarle County, where he contacted police, said Charlottesville police Sgt. Faron Ocheltree.
The man received minor injuries from the assault, and his wallet, cell phone and other personal items were stolen, Ocheltree said, who added that the incident appears to be random.
Police are not releasing the victim’s identity, Ocheltree said.
Ocheltree said that “it does seem quite odd” given the intersection, near the UVa Corner, is often crowded and there were formals going on that night.
The man was unable to provide a description of his attackers and police continue to investigate, Ocheltree said.
