A Burkeville woman is in jail facing several charges related to a robbery in Buckingham County.

Sgt. William Merritt with the Buckingham Sheriff’s Office responded early Friday to a reported robbery at the McDonald’s on U.S. 15, according to Sheriff William G. Kidd Jr.

As Merritt arrived, a person wearing a mask and dark clothes left the building and ran, the sheriff said. Merritt chased and arrested the suspect, Carolyn Nicole Booker.

Deputies Erik Bryan and Neil Morris arrived and found employees locked in the McDonald’s cooler.

The employees told authorities that the robber claimed to be armed and demanded money from the safe, Kidd said. After they handed over an unspecified amount, the robber locked them in the cooler.

None of the employees suffered significant injuries.

Booker was charged with robbery and four counts of abduction, Kidd said. She was treated at Southside Community Hospital for a leg injury.

Kidd said Booker could face more charges.
