Richard and Judy Nunley, the owners of Better Living Furniture and Better Living Building Supply, started the Golden Apple Awards in 2001 to honor local teachers for the work they do in building a better community.
Forty teachers were recognized Thursday evening in the Dome Room at the University of Virginia’s Rotunda.
One teacher from each Albemarle County and Charlottesville school, as well as from local private schools in the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, was selected by local parents, students and other teachers.
The 2008 Golden Apple recipients:

Eight of the award recipients were chosen in a lottery to receive $1,000 professional development grants. The grant winners were Grosh, Massie, Morris, Green, Allen, Stargell, Brubaker and Pezua.
