CHARLOTTSEVILLE, Va. (AP) _ The University of Virginia has named a prominent Alzheimer’s disease researcher as dean of its medical school.
Dr. Steven DeKosky will become vice president and dean of the School of Medicine on August 1. He has served as chairman of the University of Pittsburgh’s neurology department since 2002 and heads its Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Before joining the faculty at Pittsburgh, DeKosky spent more than a decade on the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
The 61-year-old DeKosky succeeds pediatrician Sharon Hostler, who has served as interim-vice president and dean since Dr. Arthur Garson Jr. was appointed U.Va. executive vice president and provost in May 2007.
