Local officials will meet Monday to discuss the creation of a task force charged with examining the reasons for and scope of a study on dredging the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir.
Expected to attend are representatives of the Charlottesville City Council, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, the Albemarle County Service Authority Board of Directors and the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors.
As part of the area’s $142.8 million long-term water supply plan, a pipeline will be built from the South Fork reservoir to the Ragged Mountain Reservoir to fill its increased water storage capacity, jumping from 464 million to 2.19 billion gallons.
At a meeting last spring, an outside company said a dredging study would cost $275,000. The water and sewer authority has set aside $300,000 for the analysis, but no funds will be spent until an outside consultant is selected and the study’s scope is resolved, said RWSA Executive Director Thomas L. Frederick Jr.
The meeting will start at 8 a.m. at the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road. Public comment will not be permitted, though the public may attend.
