Former Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner will swing through Charlottesville on Saturday morning as part of his campaign to replace retiring U.S. Sen. John W. Warner.

From 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Warner, a Democrat, will visit the Charlottesville City Market on Water Street.
Warner made headlines this week because it was announced that he will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 26.

Following his appearance at the farmers market, Warner will head to a Charlottesville Democratic Picnic at 11 a.m. at the Park at the University of Virginia School of Law.
Warner will face former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, a Republican, in the Nov. 4 election.

Also appearing at Saturday’s picnic will be Tom Perriello, a Democrat challenging U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount; Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath County, who is running for the Democrats’ gubernatorial nod in 2009; and Del. David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville.
