Alleged Interstate 64 sniper Slade Woodson was indicted by a Waynesboro grand jury today on six felony charges stemming from two early-morning shooting incidents in the city.
Bypassing a preliminary hearing that was scheduled for this afternoon, prosecutors obtained the indictments - including two new charges of maliciously firing from a vehicle - directly from the grand jury, said Commonwealth’s Attorney Charles P. Ajemian.
Woodson was indicted on two counts of firing into an occupied building, three counts of maliciously shooting from a vehicle and one count of destruction of property for allegedly firing on the Dupont Community Credit Union on Lucy Lane and a occupied residence on North Commerce Avenue in what police say was a continuation of the March 27 sniper attacks and vandalism along the highway and in Western Albemarle county.
Bullets struck a window and brick wall of the credit union building, as well as a repossessed van in the parking lot. Two shots were fired at the North Commerce Avenue home, where two people were asleep.
