At the Republican National Convention, an initial event was video speeches by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley. Both of these men said they couldn’t be at the convention in person because they were busy with the threat of Hurricane Gustav and caring for those affected by the storm. Perry stated, “That’s what we Republicans do!”
I was offended by the inference that Democrats never thought of helping people in need.
Several years ago I was in a prosecutor’s office in Ohio. Behind his desk on the wall was a 2 feet by 2 feet “picture.” It had a white background with a black circle of abstract shapes at the center. As you stared at the circle, you could discern the phrase “Transcend the b—-s—-.” That is what needs to take place in our current political environment, and Barack Obama is the only one who expresses a desire to reach that point.
