I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the participants in the Quality Community Council Walks! Against Gun Violence.
As a QCC board member and supporter, I am proud of the effort that QCC has made in partnership with local citizens and faith community leaders to raise awareness and provide a mechanism for solidarity in bringing gun violence, and other acts of aggression, to an end in our community.
In particular, Angela Carr, our QCC Farms! summer intern and local high school student, has been instrumental in organizing the effort to end gun violence through a series of community meetings. She has done so with the help of Karen Waters, the executive director of QCC, and Gene Osborn, a teacher at Charlottesville High School. It is with great courage that Ethel Magruder and Angaleen Luck have also continued advocating for a community-based, proactive response to the violence that has claimed the lives of their own children. In addition, we at QCC appreciate the coverage that the local television stations have provided the QCC Walks! Against Gun violence in recent weeks.
These walks have been well attended by a diverse and committed group of Charlottesville citizens and not only serve as a method of demonstrating unity around an urgent issue, but also provide the opportunity for every participant to get to know both the people and the neighborhoods that comprise our city’s most valuable assets.
