I am deeply upset by the damage to Obama/Warner/Perriello campaign signs here in Nelson County. I have seen several myself as I drive Route 151, Route 6 and U.S. 29.

It is disturbing to see such vandalism directed at one political party by people who may think it acceptable behavior. I understand that such vandalism is a federal offense. (I have looked to see if this has happened to the Republicans as well, but have not so far seen evidence of it.)

What I don’t understand is why it is considered an “OK” thing to do. Could it be that the hate mongering we are lately hearing from the Republicans — calling our candidates terrorists and evil beings, saying such things as “kill them” — is spreading?

In comparison to killing someone, damaging signs seems minor, but this is our county, our nation, and I don’t like this mob mentality that is erupting among some of our citizens.

This does not surprise me.

In the local news, there are reports that Republican thugs are harassing people all over the area including those who were trying to do voter registration.

Are Republicans the new NAZI Brownshirts?
