I took part in an amazing event in Charlottesville recently. My 4-year-old son participated in the Discovery Dash, a non-competitive track meet for kids 3-12. He was one of more than 400 kids running that morning.
It was my son’s first exposure to formal running. He had a great time and enjoyed the post-race healthy snacks from Whole Foods.
As an active parent and personal trainer, I am so pleased this community takes part in promoting physical fitness at a young age. With the childhood obesity epidemic, we have to watch out for our kids health and expose them to positive healthy choices so they can make their own smart decisions.
I want to thank Mark Lorenzoni, the Discovery Mu-seum staff and the Charlottesville Track Club volunteers for their tireless effort to make this event run smoothly. I look forward to seeing my kids “race” next year. My son is already training for the next event, a full lap around the track.
