People should get to know pit bulls

I just wanted to thank The Daily Progress for taking the time to provide a balanced perspective in the media regarding pit bulls (“Pit bulls: vicious or victims?”, July 7).
It’s sad that we as a society have sat back and watched what is essentially the genocide of a breed without bothering to do real research or get the facts for ourselves.
Pit bulls are lucky to have such dedicated advocates in Sara Meehan and the Charlottesville SPCA.
If all of us could find it in our hearts to be open-minded, not let everything the media say sway us and to get to know these dogs ourselves, then maybe it would be easier to find responsible, loving homes.
