The letter of Sept. 18, “Obama critiques conceal racism,” was the most offensive letter I have ever seen in The Daily Progress.
The writer stated that the reasons given by those of us who do not consider Barack Obama the best choice for president “… are no more than code language for — he’s black.”
The letter went on to be even less accurate and more mean-spirited.
I am no racist and never have been. I vigorously supported Paul Harris for election to the House of Dele-gates. I also supported Mi-chael Steele for Senate from Maryland.
The writer attributes O-bama’s falling poll numbers to “racial motives.”
The fact is that it is because a growing majority recognizes that Obama simply does not have the experience after two years as a senator, most of which was away campaigning, and that in the instances he has exercised judgment — for example in selecting his close associates — he has demonstrated very poor judgment.
The writer closed his letter by saying, “Let’s recognize its existence [racism] and confront our prejudices.” That is good advice to follow.
