Our health care system is broken

Witnessing our government wrestle with the economy’s deepening problems can be a humbling experience.

So, why do I care? I care because the problem of providing good quality, affordable health care for everyone in the nation is not just the “poor man’s problem.”

Roll the words “Habitat for Humanity” around in your mind and you’ll likely see hammer-swinging volunteers sweating in the sun but not the folks working under fluorescent lights to make it all possible.

We knew things were tough for city coffers … but threatening a woman’s home over a 1-cent water bill?

The Daily Progress Nov. 14 editorial on Barack Obama’s energy plan (“Energy plan: Expect pain”) is deeply flawed because of both its superficiality and its excessive use of ad hominem sarcasm in place of thoughtful analysis.

The front-page lead article of The Daily Progress of Nov. 9, “Obama win a life’s work for activist,” featured the reaction of 80-year-old black activist Eugene Williams to the election of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States. 

Here’s a troubling irony: The number of children who go hungry in America is virtually the same as the number of children who are obese.
