With polls opening this morning, deceptive automated phone calls are attempting to mislead voters to the wrong polling places.

It’s a political trick often targeted to areas of low income voters.

The State Board of Elections offers this advice: don’t believe any caller who tries to tell you where your voting place is.

If your polling place is changed, you won’t find out in an unsolicited phone call.

If you’re not sure, look up your voting location. You can do it online at sbe.virginia.gov. You can call the SBE at (800) 552-9745. Or look up your voter registrar in the local government pages of your telephone directory.

Or better yet, go to your usual polling place. Most likely it’s the right one.
