Albemarle dropped their second straight district home game to the Panthers 28-13, leaving the Patriots, who started the season 3-1, with a 3-3 record and a 1-2 district mark that’s going to make the final stretch of the season an uphill climb.

A quiet accomplishment
As it turns out Ragland surpassed the old record over the summer, when most volleyball teams were going through preseason workouts before practice started in August. That’s when the Virginia High School League made a simple correction to former record-holder Lillie Moore’s win total from 415 to 372 victories, immediately vaulting Ragland, the state’s active leader, into the top spot all-time.
Pats win Commonwealth crown
Last week at the Birdwood Golf course, Albemarle’s squad wrapped up its sixth consecutive district crown with a four-stroke victory over Colonial Forge.

Beating the odds
Jones was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma and wasn’t given a particularly optimistic prognosis by his doctor — a 20 percent chance of survival. Stage IV is the most severe progression of Hodgkin’s, a stage where the infected cells have moved into organs other than the lymphatic system — Jones’ disease had already spread to his lungs.
Black Knights aim for improvement
The Charlottesville football team is going through an adjustment period, and hopes to get on track tonight as it travels to Albemarle (1-1).
