Beating the odds
Jones was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma and wasn’t given a particularly optimistic prognosis by his doctor — a 20 percent chance of survival. Stage IV is the most severe progression of Hodgkin’s, a stage where the infected cells have moved into organs other than the lymphatic system — Jones’ disease had already spread to his lungs.
Black Knights aim for improvement
The Charlottesville football team is going through an adjustment period, and hopes to get on track tonight as it travels to Albemarle (1-1).

Albemarle is loaded with great team speed this season, from the skill positions down to some quick linemen who will rely on being technicians in the trenches. The Patriots are fast just about everywhere, and you can guarantee coach Rick Vrhovac is going to find a way to use that quickness.

Orange County grapplers hope to recapture lost tradition
The longtime youth wrestling coach and current Vice President of Sports Operations for the Orange County Boosters Club wants wrestling in Orange to regain what he believes is a lost tradition. With this in mind, he coordinated last week’s technique camp at Orange County High.

Unfortunately for Western Albemarle’s Joey Manilla, that was not the case — he lost in the state semifinals to Region I champion Elliott Mee of Jamestown in three sets, 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 6-2, but Artis saw the heart of a champion.
Chargers handle Patriots in semis
Shutting Brittany Griel down proved tougher than anyone imagined as the Chantilly star scored six times to lead her team past the Patriots, 11-9.
