Unfortunately for Nelson County, it’s becoming more obvious that the path to a Group A state title runs right through the Governors’ Dogwood District.

It appears that Albemarle’s baseball team isn’t the only squad that came out on the short end of Mother Nature’s stick. Charlottesville’s girls soccer team’s state quarterfinal battle with Courtland was called a 1-0 Courtland victory after a thunderstorm delay of nearly three hours. There were 38 minutes left on the clock when the game was delayed, but those 38 minutes won’t ever be played.

In Sterling, Western Albemarle sophomore Joey Manilla made sure his team would get the most out of a trip to southwest Virginia next week.

In Woodbridge, Margaret Moss scored six goals as the Albemarle girls lacrosse team defeated Forest Park 18-6 in the Northwest Region semifinals on Thursday.

Western Albemarle’s tennis program added two more trophies to its case on Thursday in the Jefferson District singles championships.
