When it came time to make a decision on where to attend college, Elizabeth Brightwell knew she didn’t want to go far from home.

Moyers’ two-day score of 15-under 127 shattered the Group AA record of 134 set in 1968 by Blacksburg’s Mark Long.

“When I bogeyed those two holes I didn’t think I was going to qualify for states,” Mikey Moyers said. “So I was a little worried.”

While the pressure may have nagged him, Moyers was able to overcome it, defeating Jack Wilkes 2-up at Birdwood Golf Course to become the first-ever repeat champion.

After two days of stroke play qualifying, the VSGA kicked off its Junior Match Play Championship on Thursday.

Evan Beck jumped out to a quick start in the second round of the stroke play qualifiying to seize the top spot in the the VSGA Junior Match Play Championship.

Nick Little isn’t planning on giving up his hold on the Battle Trophy any time soon. The Crozet golfer, who plays out of Old Trail and just finished his junior season on the Radford University team, has entered two of the local Battle Trophy tournaments so far this season. He’s two for two.
