After a year where St. Anne’s-Belfield overcame hurdle after hurdle, the Saints finally found an obstacle they couldn’t conquer — slowing down Atlantic Shores Christian quarterback Josh Healey.

There’s a fair amount of common ground between St. Anne’s-Belfield and Atlantic Shores Christian.

Any football coach would be happy to have one consistent running back on his roster.

On Wednesday evening the two teams went at again in their semifinal match of the LIS tournament, but this time around it was the Cougars who came out on top 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 15-8).

The Virginia High School League laid out a a new proposal for how to divide the state with regards to the postseason, and the new proposal clearly coincides with the Redistricting and Reclassification committee’s desire to “think outside the box,” as detailed in the power point presentation.

STAB took advantage of Christchurch’s lackadaisical defense as they managed to tally two goals including the game winner in the 85th minute to earn the Saints a 2-1 victory.

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s volleyball team has seven seniors on the squad, so expectations were high coming into this season because of the Saints’ veteran leadership. But then the Saints stumbled a little out of the gate, struggling with a tough schedule. That’s part of the past now.

Clearly the Saints can, shutting down Covenant in a 27-14 victory over the Eagles, who were ranked No. 2 in the state going into the contest.

McGrane’s prediction proved dead-on, as Goodloe weighed interest and offers from schools as wide-ranging as baseball power Florida State and Ivy League academic power Harvard. The senior found a perfect medium in his eventual choice, William and Mary.
