Young returnees lead Warriors’ challengers
The All-Jefferson District volleyball team clearly showed that Western Albemarle is still the dominant squad in the district, but it also showed that a series of young, talented players are beginning to emerge at the schools that have played second fiddle to the Warriors the last few years.

With the win, the Flucos avenged an earlier loss to the Dragons and the teams are now tied for second place in the Jefferson District behind unbeaten Western Albemarle.

Western rallies past Monroe
In the end, first-place Western Albemarle was simply too big and too powerful for second-place William Monroe, prevailing in the third set 25-20 and in the match 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13).

Leisure, Warriors win at Meadowcreek
For the seventh year in a row, Western Albemarle walked away with the Jefferson District tournament title on Tuesday afternoon at Meadowcreek Golf Course. The Warriors’ top player, Patrick Leisure, fought off Monticello’s Kevin Archer in a playoff to win the individual crown.

Hornets, Flucos reach Jefferson final
Whenever Micalah Sacre enters the circle for the Orange County softball team, the Hornets have a great chance to win. On Tuesday evening, Sacre lead her team not just in the circle, but at the plate as well, in a 2-0 win over William Monroe in the Jefferson District semifinals.

Calm Fluvanna cruises past Monroe
After falling behind in the first inning against William Monroe in the first round of the Jefferson District baseball tournament Friday night, Fluvanna County looked to be in danger of crashing out of the postseason. Instead, the Flying Flucos stayed calm and scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to advance to the semifinals with an 8-3 victory.
Covenant headed to Division II final
In Goochland, Emily Klein and Amy Inouye scored second-half goals to lift the Covenant girls soccer team into the VIS Division II final with a 2-0 semifinal victory over Wakefield.
