One of the most wonderful ways you can help animals in need is through a “planned gift” to fund the future of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Making a gift through your estate is an effective way to ensure the SPCA carries on its No Kill mission to save the lives of the animals that come through our doors.

Planned giving can make your every dollar go farther!  Planned gifts may be revocable or irrevocable and provide a future stream of support to the SPCA. In addition, a planned gift may benefit you and your estate as well.

Leaving a simple bequest to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA in your will or living trust is one way to leave your legacy of support.  Even a life insurance policy can provide a great resource: simply designate the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA as your beneficiary.

Or you might consider designating the SPCA as a beneficiary of part or all of your retirement plan assets.  Did you know that when retirement plan assets are left to heirs other than the spouse, the beneficiary could incur estate and income taxes well over 50 percent of the value of the plan assets?  Even your spouse will owe income taxes on every withdrawal.

But if you give your plan assets to the SPCA, neither estate nor income taxes will be owed, and the animals will benefit from every dollar.  What a wonderful way to make a gift to the animals!

Also, a variety of charitable trusts enable you to make a generous gift to the SPCA while meeting your family’s financial needs. Many trusts offer significant tax benefits and a reliable payment stream for you and your family during your lifetime, and provide a generous legacy for the SPCA.

An estate gift is simply one of the most powerful ways to support the No Kill mission of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA.

We hope we’ve given you some new ways of thinking about how you can make a difference for animals in need.

If you would like to become a member of a distinguished group of individuals who affirm their commitment to the SPCA with a planned gift or for more information, please call our Development Office at 434-964- 3305.
