Cavs name Thompson as starter against UCLA

Virginia has a starter for their NCAA regional opener against UCLA. Virginia coach Brian O’Connor has tabbed 6-foot-6 junior Jacob Thompson to throw against the Bruins at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Thompson is 6-4 on the season with a 4.40 ERA. In his last outing, he picked up the Cavs’ critical win over Florida State in the ACC tournament with a five inning effort that included six strikeouts.
