On Wednesday, sources told The Daily Progress that Virginia center Tunji Soroye has informed several people close to him that he is strongly considering transferring to another school.

“He’s definitely an NBA player,” said Jared Dudley, who was in Charlottesville last week for the NBA Top 100 Camp. “He just needs to work on some things — like getting people more involved. He has the time to do it. If he has to go overseas for a couple of years — you do that — but I’m hoping the best for him.”

Oliver Winterbone, Virginia’s assistant director of basketball operations, is returning to his alma mater. On Monday, The Daily Progress learned that Winterbone, whose nickname is “Googs,” has accepted a position on Fred Hill’s staff at Rutgers.

On Wednesday, sources told The Daily Progress that UVa forward Mamadi Diane — the team’s leading returning scorer — recently underwent surgery on his left foot and is expected to be out of commission for at least a couple of months.

Sammy Zeglinski told The Daily Progress that his ankle is feeling good. The 6-foot, 175-pounder has been participating in pickup games since about the middle of last month.

Bulls guard Ben Gordon, who was in Charlottesville on Monday afternoon to speak at Virginia’s annual Elite Camp, doesn’t have a feel for who Bulls general manager John Paxson plans to select with the No. 1 overall pick.

There was an anomaly inside of John Paul Jones Arena during the first day of Virginia’s Elite Camp on Sunday afternoon.
