Covenant boys advance to TILT lacrosse semifinals
The Covenant boys lacrosse team defeated Walsingham Academy in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, coming back from a late two-goal deficit to win 7-6 in the quarterfinals of the VISAA Division II tournament.
Trailing 6-4, the Eagles battled back to tie the game at 6-6 with about four minutes to play. The Eagles decided to hold the ball in the hopes to get a good look to take the lead, and sophomore Alex Kuehler scored on an assist by Luke Heinsohn from behind the net.
“Luke hit Alex on just a beautiful cut from up top and Alex stuck it with about 2:50 left,” said Covenant coach Dave Breslin.
The Eagles (14-4) will now take on third-seeded Virginia Episcopal on Thursday in the semifinals. Covenant lost to VES in the teams’ first meeting and knocked off the Bishops in overtime in the second matchup.
“Both teams know each other very well,” said Breslin, “and we certainly expect a great game. It’s a great opportunity for us to be able to achieve all of our goals that we set in the beginning of the season.”
