Albemarle paid North Stafford back in a big way for last year’s blowout loss at home. The Patriots (3-1) slogged through the rain to grab a 35-7 win in their Commonwealth District opener on the road with a big fourth quarter.
Albemarle’s defense, which is giving up an average of nine points per contest over its last three outings, all but shut down the Wolverines.
The Patriots’ Jeremy Robinson threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another 94 on the ground against the Wolverines. The senior quarterback punctuated the win with a 59-yard run in the fourth quarter, the final of three big touchdowns in the fourth.
Zach Vrhovac had another monster game at receiver with 143 yards on eight catches, including a pair of touchdown passes. One score was a 24-yard catch in the fourth. Jordan Hill was also on the receiving end of several Robinson tosses, hauling in 94 yards on four catches. A 67-yard touchdown that started the fourth quarter highlighted Hill’s night.
Louisa trumps Western with defense
Western Albemarle (2-4) struck first, but Louisa County’s defense got the job done after the lightning delay, as the Lions won their district opener 21-14 over the Warriors.
Louisa (3-1) jumped on a fumble in the fourth quarter and then returned an interception for a touchdown to take the win over the Warriors. A showdown against Monticello this Friday now looms for the Lions.
Madison stays unbeaten
Madison County (4-0) knocked off Page County with a 21-14 win. The Mountaineers’ Logan Terrell led the rushing attack this week with 127 yards and two touchdowns including the gamewinner in the fourth quarter with three minutes and 30 seconds to play.
Devon Boone rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries.
