After battling to a tie through seven innings last night, Fluvanna County used a timely hit from its No. 9 batter and some nifty baserunning to pull out a 6-2 victory in nine innings over Monticello.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie until just under the 10-minute mark, when Charlottesville freshman Sarah Robinson found the back of the middle of the net from about 25 yards out to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.

The Black Knights and Warriors played to a 1-1 tie at Western after a Charlottesville goal in the closing minutes of regulation evened the score. Neither team could break through for a game-winner in overtime.

Freshmen have their day as Saints win a pair

After pitching a scoreless inning and scoring the winning run in St. Anne’s-Belfield’s 8-7 morning victory over Benedictine, Spinosa and fellow freshman Kevin White hit home runs in the Saints’ afternoon matchup with Maury. He then shut the door on Commodores star Marcus Breeden to clinch a 5-3 STAB victory on Saturday at Perry Field.

The Blue Devils made the most of the opportunity to run on their home track, edging Louisa County for first place.

After a loss to Louisa County earlier this month, the Western Albemarle baseball team has won two straight Jefferson District games — at William Monroe and Monticello this week.

The Warriors rode the arm of Wade Hughes and the strength at the top of their order to defeat the Mustangs 7-1 and secure their second district win in as many days.

With all the recent games postponed due to rain, Monticello was eager to finally get on the field and play a game and it showed on Friday as the Mustangs cruised past Western Albemarle 13-1 in five innings.

Eldridge gets first win as Blue Devils stop Mavericks

Fork Union lacrosse coach Houston Eldridge, an assistant for 10 years at the Academy, notched his first victory in season one as head coach on Thursday, as his Blue Devils withstood a valiant comeback from the Miller School to prevail 11-5.

Restless Western drops Monticello

Rittenhouse’s squad finally got back on the field Thursday night, and play they did. On the road against Jefferson District rival Monticello, the Warriors’ offense poured it on in a 7-1 romp.

Youthful Dragons stop Mountaineers

On Wednesday, sophomore pitcher Taylor Collier answered the call, giving up just four hits and one run as the Lady Dragons defeated Madison County 3-1.

Fork Union broke through for eight second-inning runs against Blue Ridge starter Ed Moss, and four Blue Devils pitchers made the lead stand up in an 11-0, five-inning victory Thursday afternoon.

As the captain of the Western Albemarle field hockey team, much was expected of Jordan Lynn.  The senior mid-center more than delivered in her last season with the team, leading the Warriors to an 18-1-1 record on the way to the 2007 Group AA state championship.

BOYS SOCCER: Charlottesville, Monticello boys play to draw

The Mustangs trailed Charlottesville by three goals fifteen minutes in, but managed to storm back to come away with a 3-3 tie.
