Nick Little finished up early at Friday’s first round of the Faulconer Invitational at Lake Monticello Golf Course. The early exit meant he didn’t realize just how far ahead he was.
The 22-year-old Crozet resident, a senior on Radford’s golf team, shot a 66 to lead by five shots after the first round. Battle Cup leader Jerry Burton, Greg Bales and Tony Good were tied for second place at 71 and Tim Kelley, Ty Grove and Tom Vlahakis were six shots back at 72.
“I actually hit it really well today,” Little said. “I felt real confident on just about every shot I hit.”
Little, the defending Battle Cup champion, bogeyed the first hole on Friday but rebounded quickly with birdies on the next three holes.
“That really kind of set the tone for the rest of the day,” he said. “I made a pretty big par save on hole No. 6, which kept some of the momentum going.”
