Mr. & Mrs. John W. Carter, Sr.
Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Carter, Sr. recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He is the son of the late Wilson H. "Bill" Carter and Alice M. Truslow of Nelson County and attended Nelson County schools. She is the former Frances Ann Root, daughter of the late Charles S. Root, Sr. and Bessie Terrell of Waynesboro, and graduated Waynesboro High School class of 1963.
Wayne and Skip first met in Waynesboro when they were employed by Virginia Panel Corporation. The couple eloped to South Mills, North Carolina in his red 1950 Ford Coupe. They were married there on Saturday, October 5, 1963, by the Honorable Florence Jones.
Originally setting up house in Nelson County, they moved to Waynesboro in 1975. Mr. Carter has been self-employed as owner/operator of Blue Ridge Service since 1974. Mrs. Carter was bookkeeper for the family business and homemaker. Together they raised three children: Teresa L. "Terry" Carter of Lake Monticello in Palmyra, Virginia, John W. "Johnny" Carter, Jr. of Cedar Glen in Nellysford, Virginia and Renee Carter Hall of Avalon in Paw Paw, West Virginia.
The Carters were treated to a beach vacation with a special golden anniversary dinner and reception at "All is Whale," a beach home in Corolla, North Carolina on the Outer Banks. The event was hosted by their children with spouses Alisa, Chris and Jeff. A shower of cards was also given. The couple appreciates all of the congratulatory expressions as their family and friends wish them both many more years of happiness.
