Rockingham Co. slaying suspect to undergo psychological review

HARRISONBURG (AP) -- A judge has ordered a psychological evaluation of a Rockingham County woman accused of killing her mother.

Lori Ann Mitchell is charged with first-degree murder in the April 2011 slaying of 68-year-old Betty Lou Armstrong.

The Daily News Record reports ( ) that Rockingham County Circuit Court Judge T. J. Wilson approved a prosecution request for a psychological evaluation on Monday. A status hearing is set for May 10.

Armstrong's body was found at Mitchell's apartment outside Harrisonburg on April 23, 2011. Investigators say she had been strangled.

Mitchell is being held without bond at the Rockingham County Jail.
