A Bumpass woman pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling almost $200,000 from three local small businesses.
Louisa County Commonwealth's Attorney Rusty McGuire said Holly Bennett-Martinski embezzled $187,714.67 from the businesses between 2008 and 2011. She pleaded guilty to five counts of felony embezzlement, according to court documents.
Bennett-Martinski managed the businesses' finances, McGuire explained.
One company grew suspicious and hired an auditor who found Bennett-Martinski had been writing checks to herself from the business' account. Bennett-Martinski immediately resigned, McGuire said.
If convicted, Bennett-Martinski could face 100 years in prison, McGuire said. She will be sentenced April 15.
McGuire did not release the names of the businesses at their request.
